Glen Magee

July 31, 1926 — November 13, 2023

Glen Magee, of Manotick, Ontario, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, November 13, 2023 at the age of 97 years.  Glen is survived by his loving wife Barbara (nee Darker); daughter Jane Kroeker (Ken) of Ottawa; son Peter (Anne Rogers) of Invermere; son Colin (Michele) of Calgary and their children Blair and Maryn. He is also survived by his sister Lois Boswell (late Bill).    He was predeceased by his parents Maurice and Dorothy (Anderson) Magee.

Glen was born in Westmount, Quebec and had a long and successful career in heavy equipment sales. In 1976, Glen and his family moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where he continued to work in senior management. After retiring, Glen began a second career in promotional advertising where he remained active until last summer.

From a very young age, Glen loved building his own model airplanes and flying radio-controlled planes and sea planes, a passion he enjoyed well into his 90’s. He was a skilled craftsman and a mechanic. He could fix anything, from refrigerators to cars and outboard motors.

Above all, Glen’s independent nature, gave way to a lifetime filled with adventure. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Some of Glen’s happiest times were spent at the lake in the cottage that he and Barbara built together and at the many social gatherings with family and his dear friends. The highlight of his summers was participating in the annual Sixteen Island Lake boating regatta where his paddling skills won him many trophies, a tradition that he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Manotick Place Retirement Community, the tremendous support from the LINH, St. Elizabeth Palliative Care for their care and compassion and sincere gratitude to our amazing Dr. Treena Greene for her many years of dedicated support and care.

A celebration of life will be held next summer at Sixteen Island Lake.

In lieu of flowers, for those wishing, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
