Georgina Wherry

April 29, 1942 — December 5, 2025

Georgina Whitehead Wherry (née Laing) April 29, 1942 – December 5, 2025 In her 83rd year, Georgina Whitehead Wherry passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, she was the cherished daughter of John and Elizabeth Laing (née Marcussen). For 62 years, Georgina shared an enduring and devoted marriage with her beloved husband, Donald Wherry. Together they built a life rich in love, laughter, and family—a legacy carried forward by their children: Lisa Wherry (Michael Vukadinovic), Kevin Wherry (Lisa Wherry, née Samic), and Dona Wherry (Kevin McCartney). Georgina was a woman of grace, creativity, and boundless generosity. An exceptional cook, she delighted in preparing meals and hosting dinner parties where her warmth and hospitality made every gathering unforgettable. Her artistic spirit shone through her sewing, quilting, and painting, each creation reflecting her gentle nature and meticulous attention to detail. Christmas was Georgina’s most cherished season. Each year, she crafted elaborate gingerbread houses—fully furnished, adorned with intricate details, and softly lit from within. These magical creations became a beloved family tradition, a testament to her imagination, patience, and joy in celebrating together.

She and Donald shared a deep love of travel, exploring Caribbean islands, returning to her Scottish roots, and discovering Canada from coast to coast on countless camping adventures. Georgina delighted in documenting these journeys, filling travel journals with stories, memories, and the small moments that made every trip meaningful. These treasured books remain as keepsakes of a life lived with curiosity, joy, and gratitude. Georgina’s love extended beyond people to the animals who were part of her life. She adored her cherished fur babies, who were never far from their side and accompanied them everywhere. Her gentle care and affection for animals reflected her nurturing spirit and added yet another layer of warmth to her remarkable life. Above all, Georgina’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted grandmother to Victoria, Mitchell, Samantha, Hilary, and Nolan, and a delighted great-grandmother to Adaline. Her kindness, creativity, sense of adventure, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Georgina’s presence brought comfort, and her spirit will forever be a guiding light for her family and friends.

We warmly invite family and friends to join us in honoring her life on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 2:00pm at Bells Corners United Church, 3955 Old Richmond Road, Ottawa, Ontario K2H 5C5.
