Georgette Ungar

We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of our mother, Georgette Ungar, on March 28, 2024 at age 98 at Embassy West Senior Living retirement home. She lived there since July 2022 and received exemplary care. She passed away peacefully with family by her side.

Georgette was predeceased by our father, Reg; our brother, Vaughan (Paula); and her son-in-law, Bruce. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Kristeen and Karen; her sons, Kim (Tracey), Kurt (Caroline), and Jeff (Inés); her grandchildren, Gilanders, Olivia, and Julian; as well as extended family and the many people who loved her.

In 2008 Georgette moved to Ottawa to be close to family but she remained a Northern Ontarian at heart, having been born in Sturgeon Falls, and having lived in Kapuskasing from the age of two. She raised her family there while working as an elementary school teacher. Georgette valued education, taking great pride in her children’s and grandchildren’s academic pursuits. She was a life long learner herself, fuelled by a curious mind.

Georgette was a kind and generous person who enjoyed giving to others. She had a positive outlook and took great delight in small pleasures. She was, above all, extremely proud of her family. Most importantly, despite many challenges, Georgette would often express her satisfaction with how it all turned out. We all loved her very much, as she loved us. That love will forever be her enduring legacy.
