George Horton Magee "Bud"

“Bud” passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024 just five days before his 103rd birthday. He was the son of the late George and Rose Magee.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Ruth Magee (nee Randall) and his children Stephen, Dan (Claire) and Peter (Leslie), his grandchildren Owen, Blaire, Cameron and Jonathan, his sister Elizabeth (Betty) Smith and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister Cynthia Kent.

Bud was born in Ottawa on February 13, 1921.   After growing up in the Great Depression, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy onboard a Corvette (Beauharnois) in the battle of the North Atlantic of World War ll.  After the war, he and other veterans built their own homes in the wonderful neighbourhood of Carleton Heights.  He went on to have a distinguished career in the Federal Government.   He and Ruth were avid and long-term members of the United Commercial Travels (UCT).

Bud enjoyed working in his gardens and property and produced beautiful flowers and a large crop of vegetables every year.  He loved to travel with Ruth and his boys including a trip across the country in a tent trailer and especially to the family cottage in Nova Scotia. He golfed in the summer and skated on the Rideau Canal well into his senior years.  He will be missed.

The family would like to thank the staff at Perley Health for their wonderful care and treating him like family.  A Celebration of Life will take place in the coming weeks.
