George Githii-passed away surrounded by family on November 7th in his 89th year after a brief illness. In December of last year, he and his daughter moved into his youngest son’s home. The last year of life was surrounded by family and close friends, in moments full of joy, laughter, love and prayer.
George Githii born in Kenya. Father of Ngatho Githii (Christina), Mwihaki Githii and Muchigi Githii. Former spouse of Mary Githii. Son of the late Ishmael Wango and Alexandra Njeri Wango. Brother to Perpetua Wambui Wango, Zakayo Mwangi, Late Zibia Wangari, late Willie Njoroge, Anna, Nyambura, late Mannaseh Makumi, Deborah Ngatho.
George Githii was an Oxford University graduate. He worked as Private Secretary to President Kenyata and was former editor in Chief of the Standard and Daily Nation Newspapers in Kenya. He also worked as Director of Publication, Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria. He was always proud of the work he did as a journalist and believed strongly in what he thought was right and spoke out against injustice and corruption fully understanding the repercussions of doing so.
He was a perpetual student and thoroughly enjoyed learning, particularly as it relates to political theory, economics and philosophy. First and foremost he was a loving father who raised his three children through many hardships but stood strong so that they were sheltered from his struggles.
He was a proud Canadian, and grateful to the country for welcoming him and providing him with a safe space and environment where he was able to raise his children. He moved and settled down in Canada, where his children were raised and went to school.
He was a man of deep faith and lived his life according to the word of God. He was a kind, loving empathetic man, who prayed for everyone and was loved by all who met him.
