Szyszlo, Genowefa (nee Podsadowska)

January 1, 1932 (Gorlice, Poland) – July 5, 2022 (Ottawa, Canada) (age 90)

Genowefa Szyszlo (nee Podsadowska) passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa on July 5, 2022 in her 90th year. She was the beloved wife to the late Bronislaw Szyszlo and loving mother to Anna (Robert Giekes), Lucie (Conrad Ogrodnik), Mark (Louise Hodder), Krysia and Peter (Iryna Pimashenka).

She was also a proud grandmother to Anthony (Giekes) and Caroline (Jason Budzinski), Nick (Amy Ogrodnik) and Alex (Ogrodnik), Jon (Hodder-Szyszlo) and Alexander (Szyszlo). And loving great grandmother to Daphne and Katriana (Budzinski).

Daughter of Piotr Podsadowski and Stefania (Moskal). Dear sister to Justyna Hudzik (Podsadowska), Czeslaw Podsadowski, and Bronislaw Podsadowski in Canada. She will be missed by her many relatives in Poland and the United States.

All her life, Genowefa radiated unconditional love which she shared with all who surrounded her. She was a pillar of stability for the entire family and a truly selfless individual who will be greatly missed.

She had countless talents, including a love for music, fashion, cuisine, and travel. She was a devoted parishioner at St. Hyacinth’s Roman Catholic Parish and a long-term member of the Paderewski Choir.

The family sends special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for all their loving and attentive care.

Visitation and prayer service will take place on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Home, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean (between Baseline and Bayshore) from 7-9 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Hyacinth Roman Catholic Polish Church, 201 Lebreton St. N. on Monday, July 11th at 11:00 am followed by burial at Notre-Dame Cemetery, Ottawa. The family has requested that masks be worn during the ceremonies.
