Garth Burton Garland

It is with great sadness the family of Garth Burton Garland announces his passing on October 18th, 2025, at the age of 93.

Born on June 10, 1932, Garth left the farm and began driving cable cars in the city. In 1956 he started driving a bus for OC Transpo; Garth drove for 36 years before retiring in 1992. Beyond his work in the city, Garth also maintained a connection to his rural roots, farming part-time at his family homestead outside of Richmond on the 4th line.

Garth enjoyed softball and was a proud member of the 1956 Stittsville team that won the Ontario Men’s Softball Championship. He also enjoyed fishing and had a great love for golfing, which he enjoyed right up until the age of 92.

Garth is predeceased by two beloved wives, both with whom he shared 30 wonderful years: his first wife, Marlyn Garland (née Roe), and his second wife, Elaine Garland (née Lewis). Also predeceased by his siblings, Beverley Churchill and Edward Garland.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Jeffrey Garland and Sherrolyn Perras (Roger Gervais), step-children, Kevin, Greg, Michael (Lorraine) Keirstead, and Karen Pynn (Tom). Garth is survived by his youngest brother, Don Garland (Linell). Garth will also be deeply missed by his many cherished nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Tubman Funeral Home Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, on Sunday, October 26th, 2025, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral Service will be held at Munster United Church, 2881 Munster Road, on Monday, October 27th, 2025, at 2:00pm. Burial and reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Munster Union Cemetery.
