William Garry Montgomery, devoted husband, loving father, adoring grandfather, caring uncle, and loyal friend passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, November 10th, 2025 at the age of 85. Garry was born in Malakoff, near Ottawa, to Merton Eber Montgomery and Ruby Pearl Montgomery (née Marshall). Growing up as a farmer, in a community of farmers, his love of the land was instilled in him from birth.
Balancing his younger years as a farmer and a laboratory technician for Agriculture Canada, he dedicated his life to helping those nearest to him. A jack of all trades, he was happiest working in his shop as well as lending his hands wherever and whenever he was able. In retirement, he enjoyed travelling the globe with his loving wife, helping others near and far, restoring and displaying his antique gas engines and resting in his recliner, with his grandchildren in his lap.
Garry is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Mary (Maria, née Paauw); his children, Teresa Stephens (Darin), Paul (Sandra) and Mark (Gina); his grandchildren, Shane, Chelsea, Rachel, Megan and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother and sisters, Maxine Miller, Doreen Ackerman, Joyce Payne, Zelda Cranston, Leonard Montgomery, and Phyllis Roy.
A visitation will be held at the Kars chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 1610 Roger Stevens Dr., Kars on Saturday, November 22, from 11am to 2pm. A private burial service will follow at Malakoff United Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to the North Gower United Church, 2332 Church St., P.O. Box 307, North Gower, K0A2T0.
We will forever cherish the memories we made together, the lessons he taught us, and the love he so generously shared. His legacy will live on through his family, friends, and everyone he touched.
