Predeceased in 2010 by his loving wife of 63 years Helen Grant (Hinds). Loving father of Russell (Cheryl Zedic), Duncan (Ginette Vanasse), Julie (John Hawkins), Fran (Ron Sabourin). Dear granddad of Emily, Garth, Jeff, Richard, Kimberly, Jackie, Marc, Alexis, Nicole, Tess, and great granddad to Braeden, Logan, Abby, Jackson, Henry, Hannah, Mason, Adelynn, Hunter, Alistair, Evelyn, Rupert. Predeceased by siblings Agnes, Gwenyth, Geddes and Edmund.
Frank had a career in electronics having obtained his government communication certificate in early1940 and joined the Merchant Marines, sailing in late 1940 on Allied cargo vessels (British and Norwegian) in the North & South Atlantic and Indian Oceans. In late 1942, he returned to Canada and joined the Federal Government serving in the Yukon and Northwest territories and the prairie provinces. Frank was an active participant in Amateur Radio activity (VE3FT) during his electronic career. In 1960, Frank and family moved to Ottawa where he was involved in training at the DOT Air Services School, developing technical and administrative courses for Radio Regulation personnel across Canada. Frank completed a 35-year career with the Federal Government at Ottawa Headquarters and retired in late 1978. Frank was involved in several fraternal organizations. He was Past Master and Life Member of Ionic Lodge 526 AF & AM and Past Patron and Life Member of Hope Chapter 184 OES. He enjoyed many outdoor activities especially the family cottage at Christie Lake near Perth. He and Helen were avid golfers and curlers. He loved to read, tell stories of his life experiences, watch curling and hear news about his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In more recent times, he had issues with osteoarthritis but stayed current with what was going on in the world. Frank moved into Perley Health in the Spring of 2021. His family extend their sincere thanks to the staff for the care and thoughtfulness shown to him.
Funeral service will be at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 20 Young Road, Kanata on Thursday, January 19 at 11:00 AM. Visitation with family will be at the church from 10:00 AM and there will be a reception following the service.
