Frances Major (née Throop)

Alice Frances Major (née Throop) passed away peacefully at Hazeldean Gardens in her 97th year on September 3, 2026. Frances was predeceased by her beloved husband Bob. Loving mother of Karyn (Marc) Larson of Stittsville and Andrew (Tara Beattie) of Calgary. Cherished grandmother of David and Michael (Kristina Arezina) Larson, and Nicole and Sydney Major. Frances will be fondly remembered by her dear sister, Bernice (late Errol) Wyse as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by her brothers Needham (late Evelyn) Throop, Robert (late Doreen) Throop and by her parents Sheldon and Lila Throop.

Frances lived a life of deep faith, having been an active member of Stittsville United Church since moving to the area in 1990. She enjoyed volunteering for many charities over the years. Frances balanced a meaningful teaching career with a deep devotion to her family.

Frances loved to create through painting, knitting, sewing, pottery, crafts, and cooking. She was feisty and never backed down from a challenge. Frances enjoyed many travels and adventures. Nothing made her happier than being surrounded by family playing games at the cottage.

Frances’ family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Hazeldean Gardens for their support and friendship over the last 8 years.

Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd. (Between Bayshore and Baseline Rd.) on Monday, September 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial at Beechwood Cemetery, RCMP section on Tuesday, September 29, at 11 a.m. Funeral service at Stitsville United Church, Tuesday, September 29, at 1:30 p.m. with a Reception to follow.
