Frances (Jackie) Elizabeth Brown

Stittsville

BROWN, Frances Elizabeth (Jackie)

Jackie passed away peacefully and quietly in the afternoon on Monday August 14th, 2023 at Granite Ridge Specialty Care, Stittsville, with family at her bedside. She was in her 91st year.

“The unsinkable Jackie Brown” was a force of nature right up until her 90th birthday last fall. Next to her children, making it to the grand age of 90 was one of her proudest achievements. Sadly, it was shortly thereafter that her Alzheimer’s began to progress at a rapid pace, overtaking her determination to outrun it. While her memory was leaving her, her sense of humour was not. She was still making jokes, telling it like it was, and giving her opinion right until the very end.

Jackie was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker who instilled strong values in her four children. She led by example, employing proper British manners passed down from her grandmother Mabel, but was not above letting out a well-placed curse word when the moment demanded it.

A passionate animal lover who was pleased to wear the moniker of “Crazy Cat Lady”, Jackie always had room in her heart and her home for one more stray – “all wayward creatures who seek shelter are welcome” was her motto.

Jackie was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Douglas, her eldest daughter Jocelyn, her infant sister Joan, her parents Jack and Vera, and her brother-in-law Ken and his wife Dee.

She is survived by her loving children Paul (Debbie), Scott (Kim), and Jennifer (Art), her adored grandchildren Evan (Bianca), Lindsay (Justin), DJ (Megan), Adam, and Leah, and her treasured great-granddaughter Quinn.

Special cousin of Sharon, whom Jackie loved like a sister, and dear friend of her neighbour Rose. Spirited Aunt Jackie to her niece Mitzi and nephews Richard and the late Kenneth Jr., of Tennessee.

Heartfelt appreciation to all Jackie’s amazingly compassionate caregivers at Granite Ridge.

In accordance with Jackie’s wishes, no funeral will be held. A private family graveside service will take place in the fall.

For those wishing, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County, or an animal charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
