Florentino (Tony) Landicho Gecolea

Passed away peacefully with family by his side at Portobello Manor on September 20, 2026 at the age of 90. Tony was born in Calamba, Laguna in the Philippines on March 14, 1936. He immigrated to Canada in 1973 with his wife and four children and was a well-loved teacher in the Philippines and in Canada for many years.

Tony was predeceased by his wife Josefina (Nina) in 2014. He will be remembered by his children, Maria Nera (Ed), Luisa Gecolea, Florentino Gecolea Jr. (Tomoe), Josephine Jordan (Sean) and his grandchildren, Paolo, Carlos, Cameron, Andrew and Karina. He will be missed by many extended family members, friends and former students around the world.

Special thanks to the wonderful nurses, PSWs and staff at Portobello Manor who have taken such great care of our father for the last four years. We will be forever grateful for the support, care and compassion provided to him during his stay.

His class of 1964 described Tony as “a teacher whose guidance shaped not only our lessons, but our character. In the quiet strength of his voice, in the patience of his explanations, and in the steady discipline he instilled, he left an imprint that continues to live in every student he taught.” This holds true for all of us in our family as well.

We celebrated everything with him and now we invite you to celebrate his life with us at Divine Infant Catholic Church on Friday, September 25, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Following a private interment at St. Joseph Orleans Cemetery, a reception will be held at 1:00 PM at Mandarin Restaurant in Orleans.
