Evelyn Alberta Bishop (née Sherwood), 97, of Ottawa, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital. She was born on November 15, 1928, in Upham, New Brunswick, to the late Clifford and Hazel Sherwood.
Evelyn graduated from the Rothesay Consolidated School and went on to complete her nursing training at the Saint John General Hospital. She devoted her career to caring for others, working with the Victorian Order of Nurses and the Canadian Red Cross throughout New Brunswick. Her compassion, warmth, and dedication touched the lives of countless families over the years.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Bishop; her parents, Clifford and Hazel; her sisters Darleen Currie (George), Kathleen Bernard (Herbert), and Olga Carson (Allen); and by her daughter-in-law Jacqueline Brougham. Evelyn maintained strong ties to her New Brunswick family and would return each summer to stay at the country home.
Evelyn is survived by her four children, whom she cherished deeply: Susan Kittner (Paul), Michael Bishop (Wendy), Peter Bishop (Rennie), and Brent Bishop (Jennifer). She was a proud and loving grandmother to her nine grandchildren: Emily, Ethan, Hannah, Brittany, Amy, Jacquie, Lily, Oscar, and Pearl.
Evelyn also loved the cottage that she, George, and her children built on Lake Kennebec, which she visited every summer for the next 40 years with her family. She also loved to knit, paint, and host sleepover parties for her grandchildren. During the last 11 years of her life, she lived happily at the Barrhaven Manor Retirement Home, where she enjoyed the company of close friends and caring staff.
Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be remembered for her positive attitude and cheerful smile. Her love for her family and her kind, gentle presence will be deeply missed.
