Eugene James Tanguay

September 29, 1975 — April 22, 2025

Eugene James Tanguay passed away suddenly and peacefully at home on April 22, 2025, at the age of 49.

Born with a sharp mind, a mischievous grin, and a strong sense of independence, Eugene lived life with integrity, wit, and quiet determination. He was deeply educated, incredibly capable, and never one to back down from a challenge—especially if there was a clever comeback to be made along the way.

He took on great responsibility for his family from a young age and remained a steady presence throughout his life—earning him the nickname “Steady Eddie.” He was hardworking to his core and known as an exceptional colleague: dependable, sharp, and quick with both his hands and his words.

Eugene was the proud father of Dorian Blois (Eri Susia Murti) and a devoted grandfather to Cleopatra Doreen Blois. He is survived by his father Eugene Tanguay, his mother Cory Tanguay Saville, and his siblings Jeffrey Tanguay, Sidney Saville, Jason Saville, Jessie Tanguay, and Raven Saville. He is lovingly remembered by the mother of his son, Blythe Blois, and by his longtime partner, Ryan Banks. He was predeceased by his stepfather, John Saville.

Eugene had a deep sense of duty to those he loved. He was a best friend to his father, a loving caregiver to his mother, and a consistent source of strength for his family. Though he kept things close to the chest, his loyalty ran deep.

He had a sharp sense of humour and a talent for getting a rise out of people—on purpose, and often just for the fun of it. Whether in conversation, at work, or around the kitchen table, Eugene had a way of making people think and laugh—sometimes at the same time.

He was also a longtime member of the Magic: The Gathering community, where his intelligence, strategy, and sarcastic charm earned him lasting friendships and respect. In fact, all of Eugene’s friendships were long-term—many of them lifelong. If you were in his circle, you stayed there.

Above all, Eugene had a massive heart for animals. His home was filled with life—furry, feathered, and finned—and he took meticulous care of every creature that found its way to him.

Eugene will be missed deeply and remembered clearly: in every sharp one-liner, every quiet act of care, and every moment someone chooses to show up without needing applause.

Family and friends may gather at Tubman Funeral Homes Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, (between Bayshore & Baseline Rd.) on Wednesday, April 30th after 2:00pm until A Celebration of Eugene’s life at 3:00pm in the chapel. Reception to follow until 6:00pm. Bring your best Eugene story—he’d expect at least one good laugh.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Humane Society are appreciated by the family.
