TAKACS, Elsie (née Chaplin)

1929 - 2022

Elsie passed away peacefully on February 22, 2022 in her 93rd year.  Missing her greatly are:  her children, Barry Takacs (Sherry Droeske) of Fredericton, NB, and Michelle Takacs (Gus MacMullin) of Ottawa, ON; grandchildren, Erika Marion (Christopher Myles) of Ottawa, and Peter Takacs (Kelly) and Dylan Takacs of Fredericton; and great-grandchildren, Indie and Sunny Myles, and Elizabeth and Raylan Takacs.

Elsie Chaplin was born in Otterbrook, raised in Middle Stewiacke, NS, and later moved to Ottawa, a city she loved.  She will be dearly missed by her sisters, Mildred Cooke (late Donald), and Della Boyce (Charles) of Truro, NS, and her many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Charles Stanley Chaplin and Gertrude Elizabeth Flemming, and brothers, Lewis (Olive), Homer (Anna), and Clinton (Marie) Chaplin.

Elsie was an incredibly fashionable woman who dazzled in all her stylish outfits.  She was a devoted mother, dedicated public servant, and proud homeowner in the Alta Vista area for 60 years.  Elsie loved babies, dogs, horses, dancing, gardening, bowling, swimming, and Scrabble, and was an incredible host and chef (her stew, fudge, apple turnovers and delicious pies were famous).  She was a very strong and determined woman, who heroically saved her eldest brother from drowning, and drove her children to Nova Scotia every summer for memorable family vacations.  Vacations at Seafoam Campground with seven of us sleeping in a cozy trailer were the best of times!

Many thanks to wonderful PSW, Cheryl, and the V!VA Barrhaven team, as well as the caring staff at Extendicare Starwood.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Those wishing, may make memorial donations to The Ottawa Mission, 35 Waller St, Ottawa, ON K1N 7G4, or The DragonFly Programme for learners with Down syndrome, 200 Crichton Street, Ottawa, ON K1M 1W2 or a charity of their choice.
