The family is saddened to announce her peaceful passing on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in her 91st year.
Elma was predeceased by her beloved husband Alfred R. Slack, her son Ronald D. Slack and her travelling companion James Dack. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Robert M. Slack and daughter-in-law Janet Bova; her grandchildren Jessica Slack, David Gougeon, Mitchell Slack, Jason King; her great-grandchildren Audrey and Danny; her brother Glenn; nieces Susan and Shirley, nephews Floyd and Norman and extended family and dear friends.
Elma dedicated her career to nursing, beginning her training at the Ottawa Civic Hospital before working at the Grace Hospital and later at the Rideau Regional Hospital in Smiths Falls. She cared for others with compassion and professionalism throughout her career.
Beyond nursing, Elma was passionate about mentoring young people. She spent many years coaching junior fastball and was an enthusiastic curler and long-time member of the Huntley Curling Club. Elma was also a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron four times with the Golden Jubilee Chapter in Carleton Place. In 2009-2010 she was appointed District Deputy Grand Worthy Matron for District No. 14, reflecting her dedication and leadership within the organization.
Above all, Elma cherished her family. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, generosity and unwavering spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Friends may call at the Carp Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 115 Rivington Street, Carp on Thursday, August 6, from 1 pm until time of a Memorial and Eastern Star Service at 2 pm. A reception with follow.
