Ellwood Hein

November 26, 1949 — July 12, 2025

Ellwood was born on the beloved family farm in Eganville Ontario on November 26th 1949 - he was the 5th son of Ellard and Beatrice Hein. Ellwood was the loving husband and best friend of 51 years to Alanna and a very proud and loving father to his two daughters Angela Hein-Lortie (Alain) and Erin Sparks (Russell). He was the proudest Grandpa/Poppa to his 5 incredible granddaughters Kendall (Cameron), Rylee, Norah, Kate and Audrey, he cherished them with his whole heart. He was predeceased by his brothers Iverson(Mary), Ellard Jr( Shirley), Delroy and sister-in-law Sharon. He was also survived by his brother Dolton and sister-in-laws Mary and Gail. Ellwood had many loving nieces, nephews and cousins that were all very special to him.

Ellwood enjoyed spending time with his extended family, sister-in-law Laurie Farrell (Russ Kowalchuk), brother-in-law Malcolm Hayes (Jacquline Moran) and many close friends. He will be sadly missed by all.

What made Ellwood truly unique was his remarkable ability to create systems for just about everything — always organized, always thinking one step ahead. He had a gift for repurposing and reusing, finding clever ways to fix just about anything with what was on hand. His creativity and resourcefulness were unmatched.

To those who knew him, Ellwood may have seemed tough on the outside, but he had a deeply kind and loyal heart. He was strong, loving, and yes — proudly stubborn. Always early, always dependable, he was someone you could count on without hesitation.

Ellwood had a lifelong love of sports — not just watching them, but playing them with energy and heart. He was a fiercely loyal fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Blackhawks, never missing a game and following his teams with passion and pride. He even invented his own sports games out on the farm where he was born — a place that meant the world to him and became the backdrop for many joyful memories.

He especially cherished Christmas, a season he embraced with warmth and excitement year after year with his family and friends.

He attended church and held a quiet belief in something greater — a sense of faith that was deeply personal and grounded in gratitude and humility.

Ellwood was a dedicated Senior Project Supervisor for an engineering company, where he managed the construction of roads, bridges, and other infrastructure projects. Known for his tireless work ethic, attention to detail, and leadership, he earned deep respect from colleagues and clients alike.

To his family and friends, Ellwood wasn’t just loved — he was a favorite. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and a steady kind of love that will be missed beyond measure and remembered always.
