TOWSLEY, Elizabeth “Betty”
(nee Wright)
Bettys Mom and Dad will be so pleased to be with her again. They watched over Her for many years from the other side and ensured that she had a great life.
She had a definite “it “ factor from a very early age. She was loved by all that had an initial meeting with Her. Sometimes it was adoration, other times simple jealousy but whatever the case she had an amazing aura about her. More than average in just about everything she was very good looking and never took a bad picture in her life, although with her humility she would probably argue that point.
This Aura lasted right up into the last eight weeks of her life and now surely shines its brightest now that she is back with her so loved parents Maime Wright ( nee Kennedy ) and the amazing George Wright whom during the depression, working for the railroad saw an opportunity to buy a small cabin up a hill and across the tracks from the lake. The beautiful Blue Sea Lake near Gracefield QC. Betty turned out to be like the Matriarch of the long list of original cottagers and their families who still reside on the same piece of ORLO that their kinfolk did back around 1930.
She was very creative throughout her journey and displayed a flair for many crafty endeavors. She was a self taught master seamstress and at one time designed and produced costumes for the CBC’s “Under the Umbrella Tree”. She was instrumental in the initial “Gift Shop” at CHEO when the hospital first opened and created incredible “Sesame street “ clone” puppets" , hand made by the dozen , that turned the original “ CHEO” bazzar into a “get in Line” benefit . Exact replicas of “Grover”” Bert and Ernie” and the” Cookie Monster”, when The “Sesame Street “ Show was still in its inception! I can still see the look of astonishment on her face as her long table full of puppets became like the original “ Black Friday “ mad scramble at the bargain bin!... incredible. She also took on the daunting task of raising three boys and eventually “ training” her beloved husband , Lyall Towsley of Shawville. Great Folks all around who led a blessed life , full of good fortune , health, and luck.
As well, her Grandparents John Kennedy and Delima Taillefer ( Kennedy ) along with John Binns Wright and Fanny Marshall ( Wright ) will have ushered her into her rightful place back at home in Heaven by the time you read this. It has been long established and readied for her to be sure . A special little light went out when she left this world but the radiance of it certainly must add noticeably , to the everlasting one God has for us all.
Betty was born in Ottawa, ON on May 1, 1929 and died at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the age of 93. Beloved wife of the late Lyall Towsley for 64 years. Loving mother of Robert, Christopher and Philip. Much loved grandmother of Amanda, Justin, Jessica and Mason. Interment will take place in Shawville, QC in Spring of 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations to Woodroffe United Church or the charity of your choice.
