Elizabeth (Betty) Pearle Green

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Pearle Green (nee Mohr) on July 30, 2026 in her 100th year.

Betty was predeceased by her parents Clifford Bruce and Laura Pearle Mohr, her beloved husband, Dr. John (Jack) Elmer Green and her sister, Grace Vuori (the late Henry). She is survived by her children Carol (Ian), Gayle (the late Rick), Nancy and Geof; her grandchildren Sean (Jayme), James (Vanessa), Taryn (Josh) and Paul (Hayley); and great-grandchildren Theo, Naomi and Aurelia. In addition, she is survived by nieces Jan (the late Tom) & Beth (Rolf) in the Mohr family and many nieces & nephews in the Green family.

Born in Ottawa, Betty was raised in Quyon until the age of ten when the Mohr family moved to Ottawa. She attended Hopewell Public School and Glebe Collegiate Institute as well as Queen's University in Kingston, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology (and met her future husband). Following graduation, Betty worked for several years at the National Research Council as an editor of scientific publications. She married Jack Green in 1953 and, after a temporary move to Montreal for his medical residency, they settled in Ottawa where Jack was an anaesthetist at The Ottawa Civic Hospital and where they happily raised their four children.

Whether in Ottawa, the cottage at Grand Lake, or in Brockville (where Betty & Jack retired), Betty loved all aspects of family life, of friendship & community, and helping others. She was an active volunteer in many charitable arenas, and she especially appreciated the fellowship, outreach & inspiration of Kingsway United Church, with special thanks to Marion Reid. In her quiet time, she enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, flower arranging and social visits from family & friends. Flowers were a constant source of joy throughout her life and surrounded her to the end. She was a warm & loving woman, a twinkling smile always on offer to brighten our days.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Duke of Devonshire and The Courtyards on Eagleson retirement homes for the kind care they provided over the past years. We would also like to thank Alice Pongase for her amazing support during Betty’s last months.

Betty’s Celebration of Life will be held on August 29, 2026, in the Chapel at Tubman Funeral Homes (Westboro Chapel), Visitation at 10:00 am, Service at 11:00 am, and Reception with refreshments following the service. Interment will take place at Mohr Cemetery in Pontiac, Quebec at 2:30 pm, for those who wish to attend.
