Peacefully on August 31, 2025, in Ottawa, surrounded by her family. Betty Campbell is survived by her three daughters: Nancy (Phil Harding), Cathy (Todd Irick) and Joni (Chris Best); six grandchildren: Tommy Harding, Marina, Lara and Christy Irick, and Gordie and Paul Best; and four great-grandchildren: Émile, Alice and Rosalie Amyot, and Campbell Ehvert. The daughter of Thomas and Offie Paul of Ottawa, she is predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Gordon, her brother Stewart, his wife Shirley, and her best friend Joyce Balharrie. Betty grew up in Old Ottawa West, attended Hilson Avenue Public and Nepean High School, and worked briefly in the federal government before devoting herself to her family, volunteer work, Red Pine Camp, the Granite Curling Club, Woodroffe United Church, Engineers’ Wives, fitness, cottage life on Mississippi Lake, bridge, knitting, baking, and being the very best Mom and Granny. A Red Pine camper since 1948, Betty was a key organizer behind the incorporation of the camp in 1973. She was a woman with a large circle of friends and a positive outgoing personality who loved life and brought the fun to every gathering. She adored her grandchildren and was famous for the line: “If you need anything, call your Granny.” Thanks to the staff at the Carlingwood Retirement Community for their friendship and care, and to the treasured Nora Saikaly, who did her hair every week for almost 40 years. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held in the coming weeks. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation Building Fund.
