Eldon Brownlee

It is with great sadness in our hearts we announce that Eldon Brownlee, in his 92nd year, passed away peacefully at home after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was the much loved husband of Lois (Sheppard) for 65 years; devoted father of the 5 B’s – Bill (the late Lesley); Barbara Sproule (Rob); Bonnie (Bill Fox); Beth Saunders (Rob); Beryl (Paul Woodcock); Loving grandpa of Matthew and Kerri-Ann Brownlee; Andrea (Robin Laporte) and first great grandchild soon to arrive, and Lisa Sproule; Kyle (Megan Chapman), Kreg and Kelsey Saunders, Graham Fox (Veronique Mauffette), Christiane Fox (Taffe Charles), Martin Fox; predeceased by his first grandchild Mark William Brownlee (1973). Son of the late Dawson and Margaret (McCulla), predeceased by his brothers George (Natalie) and Sydney (Beth), brother in law of the late Gordon and June Sheppard, Mervyn (Helen) Sheppard and Avis Brownlee (the late Ron). Survived by cousins Mary and Marion (the late John) Armstrong, Helen (Robert) Bronson, Georgina Neill (the late Russ) John (Ann) and Robert (Lesley) McCormick and many nieces and nephews. Eldon loved being a Holstein dairy farmer, sold in 1976, then worked for the Regional Municipality of Ottawa Carleton . During his 76 years as a member of the Orange Association Eldon was honoured with the highest positions in the order, including: Past Grand Master of the Orange Young Britons of Canada; Past Grand Master and Sovereign of the Grand Orange Lodge of Canada; Past Grand Master of the Imperial Orange Council of the World, and a member of Osgoode Ladies Orange Lodge. Eldon was always willing to give his time to others and was a founding member and secretary treasurer (for 24 years) of the Carleton Co-op Milk Transport and also a founding member, over 70 years, of the South Carleton Branch of the Canadian Legion (Manotick). Eldon and Lois were avid RVers. They made many friends in the Family Motor Coach Association of which Eldon is a Past President of the Thousand Island Voyageurs. Eldon was an active member at the Kars fair, in his community and his church. Special thanks to Dr. Rod Rabb, the team at Queensway Carleton Hospital and the wonderful palliative care team of Nelson, Caroline and Audrey which allowed Eldon to remain at home for his final days. Visitation will take place at the Kars Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 1610 Roger Stevens Drive, Kars, (East of Hwy 416) on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Osgoode on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment Holy Trinity Cemetery, North Gower. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or St. Paul's Anglican Church, Osgoode. An Orange, Black and Ladies Lodge service will be held on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
