Eileen Winnifred Vickery

Eileen Winnifred Smith was born in her grandparents’ farmhouse as the third of six children. She grew up on her parents’ market garden farm in Islington, Ontario (now Etobicoke). She lived there until she married Howard George Vickery in June 1952, and moved to Brampton where Howard opened a Chartered Accountancy firm. Howard and Eileen were blessed with three children.

After living in Brampton for many years, they retired and moved to a home on Paudash Lake near Bancroft, Ontario where they lived for nine years.

After Howard was diagnosed with leukemia they moved to Ottawa to be closer to family and to receive medical help. In 2004 they moved to the Eastern Ontario Christian Seniors’ Home. Howard passed away after living there for two years. Eileen continued at the co-op for 21 years and over that time was actively involved in community life. She gave up driving her car in her 92nd year during the Covid lockdown days.

She is predeceased by her siblings Gordon (Doris), Albert (Miriam), Ellamae (Arthur), and Margaret (Malcolm). She is survived by her sister Vera Mackenzie (Doug) and sister-in-law Audrey Smith.

Eileen loved and prayed for her children Calvin (Ruth), Lynn (Shannon), and Timothy (Irene), and grandchildren Meghan, Adam (Jessica), Jessica (Conrad), Robyn (Dylan), Evelyn, Michael, Devon, Rebecca, Sheldon (Nicole), Riley (Jenessa), Joel, Aidan, Hannah (Mark), and Patrick (Emily), and great-grandchildren Connor, Claire, Mikaela, Aniyah, Nathaniel, Liam, Calvin, Noah, Ethan, and Alexandra.

We are grateful for the dedicated, compassionate care Eileen received at home in her last weeks from Dr. Swami and the Carefor team.

She said not to make her funeral a sad time because in her words, “I will be happy at home in heaven.”

A visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held at Arlington Woods Free Methodist Church, 225 McClellan Road, Nepean on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 1:30 pm with visitation starting at 12:30. Interment to follow at Pinecrest Cemetery.
