Eileen was born in Peterborough ON. She moved to Sudbury as a young child and lived there until she met and married her husband of 72 years, Gerald. Together they raised three daughters. They lived a few different places but settled in the Espanola and Massey area for about 50 years.
Once her daughters were in school fulltime, Eileen focused on her own education receiving a BA, MA, MLS and PHD. She worked as a Librarian at Laurentian University in charge of Government Documents.
In her spare time, she was always knitting – mitts and socks were her specialty. She enjoyed reading murder mysteries and sitting in the sun on a warm summer day. Her pastry for pies and tarts was unmatched by anyone. And her shortbreads were melt in your mouth delicious.
Avid travelers, Eileen and Gerald toured much of Canada including The Yukon Territories which included an excursion into Alaska. They toured the UK, the middle east, Greece, Italy, Spain, Bermuda, and the West Indies. Their travels included more than 20,000 KMs driving around the United States. Once she retired, her winters were spent in Arizona and Portugal. Most recently Eileen and Gerald resided in a retirement home in Carp ON, meeting and making many new friends.
Eileen passed away May 6, 2025 surrounded by family. She is survived and missed by her loving husband Ger; her daughters Tara (Rob), Kari (Bill), and Pam (Gord); her grandchildren Tim (Amy), Fiona (Patrick), Fraser (Caroline), and Ronan; 5 great grandchildren including her youngest Lachlan.
