The family is sad to announce the passing of Dr. Tonis Kasvand on Tuesday March 4, 2025, in Ottawa at the age of 94, with his daughter Angelica Kasvand Harris and his son Tonis F. V. Kasvand by his side. He leaves behind his sibling Eva Hudyma, his two grandchildren Emerson Harris and Myia Harris, and his son-in-law Michael Harris.
Tonis was born in Estonia and grew up during the war-torn era of World War 2. His family escaped to Sweden during the war, then immigrated to Canada where he met his wife Danuta and started his family while earning a Ph. D in Electrical Engineering. He worked for the National Research Council, then became an adjunct professor teaching at Concordia University while authoring two scientific books. Tonis believed in education, enjoyment, and shots of “medicine”.
The family would like to thank Orchard Walk Retirement Residence for their care and dedication. We would also like to thank the many friends, family, and health care professionals who assisted with caring for Tonis.
As per the wishes of Tonis, a private family gathering will be held with no funeral service.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider donating in Memoriam to the Dementia Society of Ottawa & Renfrew County.
