Doug leaves behind his devoted parents, Katharina (Kathy) and Henry (Hank) Vandervelde, who cherished him deeply. He is also survived by his brother Brian, his wife Jodi and their children Alexandria and Jack; and his brother Jeff and his children Emmalies, Julia and Matthew.
A proud graduate of Woodroffe High School and George Brown College, Doug built a career marked by skill, integrity, and hard work. He served as a Site Superintendent at ASCO (formerly working at Buttcon and McIntosh Perry), where he was admired for his leadership and craftsmanship. Earlier in his life, Doug’s entrepreneurial spirit shone through when he ran his own company, Post-Tech Construction.
Doug believed deeply in the power of community. He was an active and generous member of the Nepean Sailing Club, the Capital City Bikers Church, and the West Carleton Snowmobiling Association where he gave his time, skills, and heart to bring people together. Whether lending a hand on a project, helping to organize events, or simply showing up with a warm smile, a nod and a story to share, Doug made everyone feel welcome. His easygoing nature, humour, and kindness built lasting friendships and left a mark on our communities that will not be forgotten.
Beyond his work and community, Doug lived life with enthusiasm and adventure. He had a lifelong passion for sleds, motorcycles and sailing, pursuits that gave him freedom, peace, and joy. Whether navigating open waters or winding country roads, Doug found meaning in motion, discovery, and the company of friends and family.
As we say goodbye, we like to imagine Doug now sailing an endless ocean with perfect wind, riding the road that never ends, or blazing trails on the perfect powder day.
