On Dec 6, 2025, I said goodbye to Dorothy. My mother's best friend. Part of my life since childhood. Dorothy was the most pragmatic woman I knew. Independent, tenacious. She designed and built her own house in the 70's when it was difficult for a woman to even get a mortgage without a man's signature. As a young woman in Toronto, she loved exercising the racehorses at Woodbine. Later her love and caring went into her cats; Pinklepurr, Simba, and Serena.
Dorothy died today after a short illness. She was 93 years old. I will miss our weekly lunches. Godspeed.
