Brown - Dorothy

With great sorrow we announce the death on March 3, 2022 of Dorothy Eleanor Brown, 96, wife of George Brown, and mother of Bob (Judi Barrett), David (Louise Drouin), Peggy (Gerry Yemensky), Jamie (Baco Ohama), and Judy (late Aidan Smith).

Born in Belleville, Ontario on May 29, 1925 to Maud and Grant Gibson, and raised in Rochester, New York, Dorothy attended Albert College for a year and graduated from Queen's University in 1948 with a degree in Political Science. She met her future husband in a student dining hall and, after many dances, movies, coffees at Joyners, and walks by the lake, Dottie and George were married in 1950. They celebrated their 71st anniversary on July 1, 2021. As an only child, Dorothy dreamed of a big family and became a devoted mom to her five children and many dogs and cats, welcoming partners and pets alike into the family. She was the mother on the field trip, maker of stuffed animals and dolls, indulger of sweet tooths, and source of much wisdom. Throughout her many moves, Dorothy developed friendships that would last a lifetime as she gardened, taught rug-hooking, quilted, sewed, and kept the cookie jar full for her grandchildren (Kyla, Jen, Meredith, Alex, Michael, Eric, Alyssa, and Mira). The births of her great-grandchildren (Kieran, Emmett, Malcolm, and Elsie) delighted her.

Dorothy will always be missed as the heart of the family and remembered for her cheerful optimism, her artistic talents, and most of all for her deep and unwavering kindness. A memorial will be held sometime in May to coincide with the lilacs she loved.  Tributes, condolences, and donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
