Doreen Whittam

1941 — January 1, 2023

To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.  A time to be born and a time to die.   With much sorrow we now say goodbye to Doreen Whittam – loving wife, mother and sister.

Doreen was born in Rodbourne (Chippenham), Wiltshire England on November 9, 1941 to Sidney Lait and Gladys Blanche Lait (Wyatt) of Alexandra House in Yatton Keynell, Wiltshire, England. She passed away in Nepean, Ontario, Canada on March 27, 2023 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.  She was 81 years old. She is survived by her devoted husband Ramon and only son, Simon Paul.

She came from a large and loving family having grown up with six brothers and six sisters.   She was predeceased by Malcolm, Ralph, Walter, Margaret, Ruby and Yvonne.   She is survived by Eric, Graham, John, Gillian, Hazel and Kathleen.

In 1972, Doreen, Ramon and Simon moved to Canada and settled in Toronto, Ontario where she stayed until 2021 at which time she and Ramon moved to Kanata to be closer to Simon.  She was fastidious for order and cleanliness – one of many traits she passed on to her son. Given the many ribbons, bows, knickknacks and magazine cutouts she acquired over the years demonstrated that she also enjoyed arts and crafts in her spare time.   Though having a stroke over a decade ago, and at which time we thought we had lost her, Doreen had a strong will to go on living and we were fortunate to have her with us for so many more years.  Eventually, her body slowly failed her, yet fortunately, her heart and mind stayed strong till the end.

Doreen will be desperately missed by all those that she’s left behind. Our hearts are so broken by this unexpected loss but we will always feel her presence. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.

And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.  Rest in Peace, kind loving soul, Doreen.
