The lights in the world dimmed on October 16, 2022 when our much loved Don passed away in his 69th year after a valiant and courageous 8 year battle with lymphoma and cancer.
Don is greatly missed by his wife of 38 years Barbara, his beloved daughter Lauren (Kyle), brother Bob (Diane), sisters Marilyn (Gary) and Sharon, sister in law Sheryl (Andy), nephews Anthony, Matthew, Alexander, Tim (Tara), niece Jennifer and grand niece Sophie, cousins in Canada, USA, England and Ireland and his childhood friend Michael O’Farrell. Don was predeceased by his parents Alice and Gerry White.
Everyone loved Don. His spirit, sense of humour, easy smile, huge belly laugh and twinkle in his eyes drew people to him. He loved chocolate cake, Christmas tree decorating, and any excuse for a party. He was a loyal fan of the Ottawa Senators, Ottawa Red Blacks and the Tottenham Hotspur F.C.
Don loved being Lauren’s Dad, going to Ottawa Senators games, taking her and her friends to Camp Fortune to snowboard, teaching her to drive and so much more. According to Lauren, Don was her ‘Hero’!
Don and Barbara loved travelling and enjoyed many trips to England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Morocco, and eastern Canada. They enjoyed the outdoors, camping and canoeing.
Don was an athlete at heart. He played high school football and baseball. At the age of 52 years, Don took up marathon running. His discipline, determination and drive helped him to qualify and run in the Boston, Chicago and New York marathons.
We are heartbroken to say goodbye to Don, a sweetheart of a man. If you wish to honour Don, consider donating a pint of blood in his memory.
