Maiden – Donald
January 5, 1929 - July 31, 2022
A caring and loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa who leaves his family, each with their own special memories: Doris, his wife of 68 years, daughters "the Maiden girls" Karen, Cathy, Beth, Donna, and their partners, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Sad to say goodbye are 5 sisters and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
We will all miss his teachable moments. A lifelong commitment and passion for education including his own; attaining a BA, B.Ed, M.Ed, and Specialist Certificate in Special Education while raising a young family. His teaching experience ranged from Elementary school teacher and principal to Ontario Government Department of Education Inspector of Schools. The later part of his career focused on children's special education. Designing programs and teaching Principals throughout the Province and advising senior Ontario Government officials on how to ensure quality education for children with special needs.
An active volunteer with many hours dedicated to the Nepean Figure Skating Club, he was recognized in 1984 with the presentation of the Community Service Award of the Decade by the Canadian Figure Skating Association. An athlete and competitor at heart he enjoyed many winter and summer sports throughout his life. Track and field in his youth, skiing with family, tennis with friends and lawn bowling with Mom.
A visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Home, 3440 Richmond Rd. Nepean (between Bayshore & Baseline) on Sunday, August 7th, from 1-2pm followed by a Celebration of Life in the chapel at 2:00 pm.
In Lieu of flowers a donation to the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Dying with Dignity or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
RIP-a life well lived and loved by many
