It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Don Garrett. Don passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Monday January 5, 2026, in Ottawa at the age of 72 years after a courageous battle with prostate cancer.
Don is predeceased by the love of his life of 51 years, Jay and is survived by his devoted children Steven Garrett (Luc Claveau) and Matthew Garrett (Amy), his grandchildren Marin and Flora Garrett and his siblings Deborah Brooks (late Brian) and Elizabeth O'Brien (Greg). Predeceased by his parents Jack and Joan Garrett. He will also be missed by his brother-in-law Robert Turner (Tammy) and sister-in-law, Jan Turner, his niece Leila, nephews Grady, Spencer, Conner, David, Michael, Geoffrey and Christopher, cousins and many friends.
Don was born in Stouffville, Ontario. Don's family moved to Ottawa in 1962. It was there that he met and married his high school sweetheart Jay and had 2 sons, Steven and Matthew. Don had a long career in High Tech, in particular Digital Ottawa, where he found himself travelling frequently to Boston for work. One of his proudest professional accomplishments was becoming one of the founders of their family business, Renu Spa, where he was fondly known as "Mr. Fix It". Don could fix anything and always took pride and care in making sure that everything at Renu was running smoothly. In retirement, Don enjoyed spending his time boating, travelling to Mexico, going to the shooting range, and sleepovers with his granddaughters.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, who helped Don navigate his many appointments and cancer treatments. We will be forever grateful for the extra time you gave us. We would also like to thank the nurses and doctors that gave Don comfort in his final days and helped his transition gracefully.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean, on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, from 12pm to 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local Food Bank in memory of Don, as he was a big supporter of this cause.
