Daniel MacDonald

December 11, 1946 – August 30, 2022

Dan MacDonald passed away unexpectedly in Ottawa on August 30, 2022. Loving husband of Kerry Davison, father of Tara, DJ, and Jordan MacDonald, and brother to Susan, Deborah and Ian MacDonald. He was a proud grandfather to Ivy, Spencer, and Maysa. He will also be remembered and missed by Kerry’s children, Tori and Ian van Veen.

Dan enjoyed almost 20 years of retirement from his job as CAO of the Bank of Canada, and traveled extensively with his wife in those years. Among his most treasured experiences were his hikes of Macchu Picchu and the Gornergrat, and his trip to see the Great Wall of China.

He was crazy about his two pups, and dedicated much of his free time to dog rescue, having fostered many dogs from abroad. He will be deeply missed by Dani and Isla, who loved nothing so much as napping with him on the couch.

Dan suffered from acute liver disease, and three years ago received the life-saving gift of a partial liver transplant from his son DJ. Having recovered fully from his transplant, he enjoyed his remaining years by visiting with his grandchildren, relaxing at home with his dogs, and taking annual (and sometimes biannual) trips to Barbados, his favourite travel destination of over 15 years.

He will be fondly remembered by his friends and family for his mischievous attitude, his crazy stories, and his love for cooking extravagant meals (although Kerry will point out that he always forgot the garnish).

We will be hosting a celebration at home for family, close friends and associates on Friday, October 14th, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We kindly request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Dan’s memory to Ottawa Dog Rescue or Jack Russell Terrier Rescue Ontario Inc.
