With broken hearts, we share the passing of Dale Power on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the age of 48.
Dale fought valiantly against cancer for 18 months, facing every round of treatment with incredible courage, strength, and determination.
Dale leaves behind the two greatest joys of his life, his sons Logan and Mason, and the love of his life, his wife Amy. Together since 2012 and married in 2018, Dale and Amy built a beautiful home and life together, filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Above all else, Dale was a devoted husband and father whose family meant everything to him. He fought with every last ounce of energy he had to try and stay with his family.
Dale also leaves behind his dearly beloved sister Danielle (Carlo), his brother Blair (Leslie), his nieces Isabelle, Charlie, and Riley, and his nephews Leo and Greyson. His parents, Margaret and Jerome deeply feel this loss in their hearts. His cherished aunts Debbie (Ed) and Cecilia (Domenic), uncles Terry and Colin, and cousins Terry, Donny, Amy, Patrick, Paula, Melanie, Candace, Tara, Randi, Gillian, Renita, Garrett, Damien, Dana, Liam, Cole, Erin, Samantha and Derek, all grieve his loss deeply. His cousin Wanda (Mike) and their children Keegan, Morgan & Addison were his second family, living so close by, endlessly supporting his family on this and many other journies.
He was predeceased by his beloved uncles Kevin (Rose) and Clayton (Heather), his aunt Juanita (Levi), and his dear grandmother, Nan Power.
Being a dad was Dale's greatest joy and the role he cherished most. He spent countless winter days building and maintaining his backyard rink, creating a place where his boys could learn to skate, play hockey, and sip on hot chocolate. He revelled in watching his children splash and play in the pool he designed. He loved wrestling with Logan and Mason, making them laugh, and sneaking in those quiet afternoon naps together on the couch. Whether they were roughhousing or simply curled up beside him, those everyday moments were the ones that mattered most.
Dale was the strong, silent type, a man of few words who preferred to let his actions do the talking. Those who know Dale, know that when he did have something to say, he didn't mince words. Dale told it like it was, and you always knew exactly where you stood with him. Beneath his tough exterior he was a soft teddy bear, with a wonderfully sarcastic sense of humour, and a love of practical jokes. If Dale was giving you a hard time, it meant he liked you.
Dale never forgot his Newfoundland roots. No matter how far life took him, a piece of home was always close to his heart. Sunday mornings often meant listening to Jigs & Reels, filling the house with the familiar sounds of traditional Newfoundland music. It was a tradition he loved, and a way of sharing his heritage with Amy, Logan, and Mason. Whenever Dale made it back home, he would never miss out on opportunity for a kitchen party. He loved reconnecting with old friends over beers, swapping stories and life updates, and enjoying plenty of laughs. No matter how much time had passed, those friendships and the familiar faces back home always held a special place in his heart.
Dale was the kind of man who could fix just about anything, and if he couldn't, he would certainly figure out how. There was no project too big or challenge too complicated. He loved large construction projects, both through his work and in his own backyard, where there always seemed to be something new to build or improve.
Those who knew Dale knew he would go to the ends of the earth for someone who needed help. He was the person you called when something broke, when a project seemed impossible, or when you simply needed someone you could count on. He never sought out recognition or praise - helping others was just what he did.
When the work was done, there were few places Dale enjoyed more than his back deck, tending to his smoker and cooking up something delicious for family and friends. He loved bringing people together, sharing good food, and enjoying the simple pleasure of having the people he cared about close by.
It is impossible to understand why someone with so much life left to live, so many things left to build, and so many memories left to make, had to leave us so soon. Dale wanted nothing more than to grow old alongside Amy and watch Logan and Mason grow into the men they will become. Although he won't be here for all the moments he so desperately wanted to see, the love he gave his boys, the lessons he taught them, and the memories they made together will always be part of who they are.
Dale, you fought so hard to stay, and we wish with all our hearts that you could have. You gave us a lifetime of love in far too few years. We will carry you with us in everything we do, and we will love and miss you every single day.
Special thanks to all the staff, doctors & nurses of the Ottawa Cancer Centre, and the Rideau Palliative Group.
