Our Song And Dance Man Now sings with the “Angels”.
Elcock “Curtis” Harry
November 20, 1936 - December 16, 2022
Curtis left us peacefully at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice (Kanata, Ontario) after a lengthy battle with cancer. Curtis is survived by his “cherished” partner (44 years) Janet O’Connor and his extended family, “The O’Connors” and his son, Curt Dempster (Kathy) and his grandson, Carter. Curtis will be sadly missed by sisters Lyris Bruno and Ingrad McKenzie and his brothers Luthan and Roy Harry. Curtis was a special uncle to many nieces and nephews and will be fondly remembered by many cousins. Curtis was predeceased by his parents, Ena Elizabeth Horsford (Campbell) and James Harry and by his sisters Jessie and Tina Noel, Shirley Harry and brother-in-law Richardson Bruno.
Curtis was born in Trinidad, West Indies and immigrated to Canada in 1969. He was employed at The Royal Ottawa Hospital, retiring in 2004. He also drove a Taxi for Blue Line Taxi in Ottawa. Curtis nurtured his “love” of music by starting The Trin-Cans steel band and joining many choirs including Aylmer United and the first United Church Choirs, The Ottawa Canadian German Chorus, and sang lead in The Capital City Chorus. He will be fondly missed by his singing partners.
A heartfelt Thank you to all staff at the Ottawa Hospitals, The Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice, Community Care Services, and Extended West End Villa for all the compassion and care. A sincere thank you to all who kept in contact and visited Curtis, to The Capital City Chorus for coming to sing, to Father Lindsay Harrison, and Rev. Brian Cornelis for spiritual guidance and support.
Curtis’ life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. John The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2340 Baseline Road, Ottawa Ontario. The family will greet visiters an hour prior to the Mass. A private inurnment will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery. A time of fellowship will take place following the Mass at Bells Corners United Church Hall, 3955 Old Richmond Road, Ottawa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to The Capital City Chorus, Harmony of Speech, Camp Smitty, or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation would be appreciated.
