Collett Tracey passed away far too soon on Friday, June 5, 2026. She leaves behind a family, circle of friends, and community of colleagues and students who will miss her deeply and remember her with great love and gratitude.
Born on March 22, 1963, in Eastbourne, Sussex, England, Collett later made Canada her home. She pursued her academic passions with determination and curiosity, earning a B.A. from the University of Ottawa, an M.A. from Carleton University, and a PhD from the Université de Montréal. She went on to become a tenured professor at Carleton University, where she shared her love of Canadian literature and poetry with generations of students. Her enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and meaningful conversation left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Collett was intelligent, compassionate, and deeply engaged with the world around her. She cared profoundly about people and was always willing to offer encouragement, insight, or a listening ear. She believed in the importance of kindness, curiosity, and community. Whether with family, friends, colleagues, or students, she had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued.
She is survived by her sons, Adam (Annik) and Rowan (Julie); her daughter, Anna (Brett); and her beloved grandchildren, Nora, Thomas, and Samuel. She is also survived by her mother, Catherine, and her sisters, Deb and Cathy. She was predeceased by her father, Patrick.
Though her passing leaves a profound loss, her memory will continue to be cherished by those who knew and loved her.
