Chris was born in Cardiff, Wales and emigrated to Canada in 1963. He did his PhD at the University of Saskatchewan and worked at the Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa researching cold hardiness in cereal crops especially winter wheat.
Chris is survived by his partner of 3 decades, Lea Kane and his children Mim Andrews and Kieran Andrews and their partners Dan Butler and Dee Hutchison, his stepson, Félix Bérubé, his nephews and their children in the UK.
Chris spent the last 2 months of his life at the Civic Hospital. On June 27, Chris suffered a stroke. The Stroke team and the Palliative care team at the Civic hospital took wonderful care of him and his family during his last days.
Chris was a loving husband and father and a great friend. He loved traveling with family and friends. He loved long bike rides in the countryside around Ottawa. He loved Hiking in Gatineau Park with his Alpine Club buddies. He love canoeing in Algonquin Park and backpacking in the Rockies. The Adirondacks and the American South West also attracted his wander lust. He loved reading and listening to music. He volunteered for many years with Citizen’s Advocacy of Ottawa. He is much loved and he will be missed.
