Dyer, Christine, (née Porteous) of Ottawa passed away peacefully on January 10, 2023 at the age of 78 years.
Christine “Chris” was born in Malartic, Quebec on February 11, 1945 to parents Emmaline Dora Reid (1917-1969) and George Levi Porteous (1914-1994). She is predeceased by her devoted husband Thomson “Tommy” Dyer and her dear sister, Irene (Keith surviving) McMillan of Kirkland Lake. Chris is survived by her loving stepdaughter, Carolyn (Michel) Dyer of Ottawa. She will be missed by her in-laws, Jack and Sharon Dyer, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Raised and educated in Kirkland Lake until the age of 18, Chris moved to North Bay to study Hairstyling and she spent several enjoyable years working in the industry. Subsequently, Chris worked in mortgages at Scotiabank on Main Street for decades where she forged many lifelong friendships. In 1976, Chris married Tommy and they lived a very happy and active life in North Bay for 30 years.
In 2005, the couple relocated to Ottawa to access appropriate healthcare and they enjoyed living close to their daughter until Tommy’s passing in 2016. For the past 7 years, Chris resided in Long Term Care while she stoically battled vascular dementia.
Our Chris possessed a resilient spirit and a can-do attitude. She will be forever remembered for her giggle, her endless generosity, and of course, that incredible smile.
A Celebration of Life will be held in North Bay in the Summer 2023 for friends and family to gather and share happy memories of Christine. More information available at a later date.
Chris was an avid animal lover and would be very pleased if you might consider donations to the North Bay Humane Society at www.northbayhumanesociety.ca in lieu of flowers.
