Christine Diane Brown

It is with sorrow and compassion that we announce the passing of Christine Brown (Wakerell) on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Christine fought valiantly to extend her time with us and her resilience and grace in battling AML were inspirational. Christine’s faith was unwavering and her strength formidable throughout her illness.

Beloved wife of 40+ years to Ken Brown. Devoted mother of Katya Brown. Loving stepmother to Scott and Kelly Brown (Corey Rattray). Cherished “Granny” to Hailey and Rylee Rattray. Dear sister to Cheryl Volesky (Blake) and Roberta Wakerell (Leon Richins) and sister-in-law to Stephen Brown. Best known as Auntie Chrissy to Tyana and Brenna Richins, Julian Volesky and Karena Avellaneda (Florent), Tiffany Brown (Brian) and great aunt to Juliette Avellaneda. Predeceased by her parents Robert and Marilyn (Jones) Wakerell.

Professionally she will be remembered for her efficiency, dedication and keeping all around her organized. Personally, Christine will be remembered for her energy, positivity, creativity, generosity and love of family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Tubman Funeral Home Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service and reception will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Woodvale Pentecostal Church, 205 Greenbank Road.

Heartfelt thanks to the healthcare professionals at the Ottawa Hospital who cared for her, Pastor Mark Scarr who ministered to her, and to all the blood, platelet and stem cell donors who continue to give to help a stranger.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada or The Ottawa Hospital Foundation.
