Atkinson – Christine

We are deeply saddened to announce Christine Roberta Atkinson, beloved and cherished wife of 71 years to Victor Stanley Atkinson, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, at the age of 91.  Christine was born in Lewisham, a borough of London, England, July 14, 1932, to parents Alfred and Cecilia Hebben. She graduated at 16 from Lewisham College of Commerce with top marks and then at 19, during a trip to Clacton-on-Sea organized by the YWCA, Christine met Victor, and before the end of day she knew she had fallen in love. They would eventually marry in 1953 in a small ceremony witnessed by family and friends before setting on a journey across the ocean to their new life in Canada.  In the late 1960s and 70's, Christine wrote scripts for: the CBC children's show Hi Diddle Day;  a film on child behavior which won the prestigious Canadian Film Award, and several animated TV specials for Atkinson Film Arts. She went on to work for the Civil Service and at the time of her retirement was a Personnel Officer at Transport Canada. She was a passionate and skilled gardener, evidenced each year by endless blooms through spring, summer, and fall.

Christine lived a life characterized by grace, intelligence, humility and gentility. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, making cherished memories unique to each loved one. She will be remembered for her remarkable intelligence, unwavering resilience, wry sense of humour, and quiet strength.  In her final days, Christine faced her illness with remarkable courage and strength, demonstrating her unwavering spirit until the very end. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, morality, and compassion. Christine is survived by her husband Vic; her children Lee (Kathi), Barry, and Melissa; her grandchildren Daryl (Jenn) and Chelsea (Rob); and her great grandchildren Elliott, Mae and Felix.   Christine was preceded in death by: her parents Alfred and Cecilia; her sisters Doreen, Jeanne, and Janet; her brother Peter; and her dogs Sandy and Mickey.
