Charles (Charlie) Slight

Charlie passed away peacefully at Perley Health on Friday, April 25, 2025 with his children, Lesley Cree (John), Tanya Slight (Dan Bowie) and Colin Slight (Anne Marie) at his side. In his 94th year, he leaves behind eight much-loved grandchildren – Adam Slight (Erin Macnab), Jennifer Elgar (Eric), Kelly Pecoskie (Nic), Victoria Slight (Harry Wong); Warren Cree (Cassi Gates) and Graham Cree (Emily Shearer); Lissa Bowie (Miguel Sobrino) and Andrea Bowie (Alex Majdaniw); and ten beautiful and beloved great-grandchildren: Ewan Slight, Clare and Charlie Elgar, Mila and Max Pecoskie, Eliza and Linus Wong, Wes Shearer, and Zaiyon and Olaiya Sobrino Bowie.

Born on June 26, 1931, Charlie was one of ten children of Charles Slight and Mary McCulloch of Gilmerton (Edinburgh), Scotland. As a young man, he trained to be a professional gardener before emigrating to Canada in 1952. He had a long career with the Canada Department of Agriculture where he applied his knowledge and skills in horticulture and agriculture and had the good fortune to travel extensively throughout Canada. At home in North Gower he applied those same skills to his own gardens and in creating flower arrangements for himself and others.

Charlie leaves behind his sister Billie Coll in Edinburgh, Scotland and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews scattered around the globe. He is predeceased by his parents and by his siblings Will, Jean Cowan, Cathy Nibloe, Jim, Julia Proulx, May Brownlee, Rob, and Andrew; and by his partner of 35 years, Patricia McConnery of North Gower, ON.

Many thanks go out from our family to the staff at Kemptville Retirement Living, and to the staff and volunteers at Perley Health who so kindly supported all of us, but especially Dad, in the last months of his life.

A private memorial for the immediate family is planned.
