It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Edward Pryce on July 28th, 2025, at the age of 73.
Born in Lowestoft, England on January 28th, 1952, the third son of John and Marjorie Pryce, he is predeceased by his brother David. He is survived by his wife Valerie and son Thomas, along with his brother James, sisters-in-law Jacqueline and Joan, and the whole Pryce family. He will also be mourned by his American in-laws and family.
Initially employed as a solicitor in the UK, Charles immigrated to Canada and was called to the Bar of Upper Canada in 1984. He worked briefly with a local law office and had the privilege to be a clerk for the Federal Court of Appeal. He then devoted the rest of his career to the Department of Justice. After 26 years, he retired as an Acting General Counsel in what was then Aboriginal Law and Strategic Policy, earning a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal for his efforts.
Work was never a barrier, however, to Charles’ many extracurricular activities and the many cherished friendships he gained through them. From cycling and swimming to choral singing and cooking, his interests were as diverse as his many friends. He will be remembered for his wit, dry-humour, patience, and wisdom.
A Memorial Service followed by a reception will be held at St Stephen’s Anglican Church, 930 Watson St, Ottawa, ON on the 14th of August, 2025, at 11am. Parking lot for St. Stephen's is located at 2821 St. Stephen's Street.
