Bruce William Edward Wiggins

March 19, 1933 — October 17, 2023

With great sadness we announce the passing of Bruce Wiggins on October 17, 2023 at the age of 90 years. Born and raised in Fort Frances, Ontario, Bruce is predeceased by his sisters, Del Rosa and Marilyn, as well as his long-time partner, Janet Dettman. His absence will be profoundly felt by his daughters, Barbara Steele (Fernando Velocci), Diane Farrell (Raymond), Jennifer McMurtry (Sean), and Wendy Wiggins; by his grand-daughters, Megan (Chris), Emilie (Darren), Charlotte, and Olivia, of whom he was so proud; and by his great-grandson, Robbie. Bruce will also hold a special place in Ann Wiggins’ heart, mother of Barbara, Diane, Jennifer, and Wendy.

In his younger years, Bruce played football, hockey, clarinet, and chess.  He completed an Electronics Technology Diploma at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, and then a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree of Science (Physics) at the University of Ottawa. Bruce worked as a computer scientist, and became a competitive sailor and ballroom and Latin dancer. He also enjoyed ice boating, skiing and travelling, and was always an avid reader.  Throughout his life, he was inquisitive, adventurous, and had an irrepressible sense of fun.

Our family offers heartfelt thanks to the nurse practitioner, Julissa, and staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital – Park Place location, for their very kind and compassionate care of our father.  For those who wish, donations in memory of Bruce may be made to The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County. The family will hold a private celebration of life.
