Bob Douglas

February 12, 1945 — January 27, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Bob. After a short battle with Aggressive Pulmonary Fibrosis, he passed away just 17 days shy of his 80th birthday. He is survived by his best friend and beloved wife of over 57 years, Jill (Bennett). Devoted father of Brent, and Jodi (Michael) Sinclair. Proud grandpa to Cameron (Cass) and Brady. Brother of Peggy (the late Bart) Gilmour and predeceased by his brother Ross (Lee). Brother-in-law to Carol (Barry) Minion. Loving uncle, cousin and dear friend to so many.

Bob will be remembered for his love of all sports, 50’s and 60’s music, his passion for education, his incredible dedication to Red Pine Camp and his devotion to his family.

Red Pine Camp has always held a special place in the hearts of the Douglas family. He attended camp with his parents and grandparents and then began his lifelong dedication to working at camp. He was employed as a Junior Staff member where he met the love of his life, Jill. Together with their pride and joys, Brent and Jodi, they camped for many years. Jodi and both their grandsons, Cameron and Brady have continued his tradition of working and volunteering at camp. Bob took pride in the volunteer work he did with Red Pine. He began as a member of the Operating Committee including Chair and later joined the Board of Directors and became President of the Corporation. He was inducted into the RPC Wall of Fame in 2018, where his contributions were recognized and honoured.

Bob always had a passion for education. He taught in a variety of schools in the former Carleton Board of Education and finished his career as a Principal. His commitment to student success was seen not only as a dedicated teacher but also as a School Administrator. He championed both students and staff. He retired in June 1998 and lived a wonderful life in retirement.

In his retirement he spent time golfing, shopping, wintering south, going to football and hockey games with Brent, watching his grandsons’ sporting activities and spending time with Jill. He continued being the best handyman around - finishing a basement, doing odd jobs and even building a backyard bar with Brent, Cameron and Brady. As the boys always said, just ask grandpa, he can fix anything.

Special thanks to Dr. Jennings and the palliative team with Health at Home who provided incredible care. Visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025, from 3-5 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to be held in the chapel on Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
