Betty Burgess

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Betty Burgess [Bette], who lived a vibrant and fulfilling life of 96 years. Bette left us peacefully on January 12, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones who cherished her warmth, kindness, and her sparkly spirit.

Born in England and then immigrated to Canada, she embraced life with an enthusiasm that was contagious. She was passionate about music and dancing; she could light up any room with her unique moves and joyous soul on the dance floor. Whether at a family gathering, volunteering, or with her community, she brought everyone together through her love of life.

Beyond the dance floor, Bette had a remarkable passion and talent for sewing and gardening. Her creations were cherished gifts among family, friends, and her community, showcasing her meticulous attention to detail and creativity. Her garden was her sanctuary, filled with vibrant blooms that reflected her love for nature and beauty.

Bette's life was a tapestry woven with love, connection, laughter, commitment, and compassion to making the world a better place. We celebrate her unwavering soul, her joy for life, and her legacy of kindness. She is survived by her children Linda (late Mac McDade), and Moira (late Billy Tapp), along with her grandchildren Kim (Michael Bessuille), Joedy, Lisa, and Robbie (Keri) and her great-grandchildren (Beckham, Autumn, Jake, & Leah and Piper), who will forever carry her in their hearts.

A celebration of Bette’s life will be held on Monday January 19, 2026, at Tubman Funeral Home (Garden Chapel, Nepean) at 3440 Richmond Rd. Visitation is from 1 pm – 3 pm and the funeral service will be at 3 pm. A reception will be held following the service. The burial will take place at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dementia Society Ottawa and Renfrew in her honor.
