It is with heavy hearts that the family of Barbara Marie Wallace announce her peaceful passing on February 8, 2026, in her 84th year.
Born in Chatham, Ontario, Barbara was the daughter of the late Edward James Cartier and Mary Georgina Cartier (née Annan). Barbara was the cherished wife of the late John “Doug” Douglas Wallace and devoted mother of Devin Morrison (Janet) and Kristen Macioge, and her stepsons, Michael Wallace (Alison) and the late David Wallace. Barbara was predeceased by her brother, Rev. Richard Cartier, and is survived by her dear sister, Elizabeth Burnham (Bill) and her nieces Jennifer Carlaw and Amanda Reineck (Erich).
Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Katlyn (Michael), Mackenzie, Charlotte, Reid, Ozzie, Francis, Josh, Morgan and Ethan, and her great-grandchildren Weston and Ivy. Barbara will also be missed by her "grand-dogs," Lando and Winston.
A dedicated educator, Barbara spent the majority of her career with the Ottawa-Carleton School Board, where her commitment to her students and her passion for learning left a lasting mark on the community. Her retirement years were spent happily antiquing, perusing garage sales with Doug, and spending time with family.
As the years advanced and dementia clouded her path, Barbara’s inner strength never wavered. To those who cared for her, the illness was secondary to the enduring light of her character; her trademark compassion and spirit were visible until the very end.
With deep appreciation, we thank the caregivers at Granite Ridge Care Community for the exceptional care and kindness they showed Barbara during her time with them.
In accordance with Barbara’s wishes, there will be no public viewing. A Memorial Service and blessing will be held at St. Brigid’s Roman Catholic Church, 2015 River Road, Manotick, on February 20, 2026 (service time to be confirmed shortly). A private interment will take place in the spring at Rideauvale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Barbara’s memory to The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County. These contributions will help support others living with dementia and their caregivers in the community she served for so many years.
