Margaret Anne Bourchier

February 22, 1928 – July 14, 2022

Predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Robert (Bob) James Bourchier.  Mother of Jim (Deb), Jane (Peter Murray) and Rob (Danica Baines).  Nami and Nana of Stephanie and Jillian Bourchier, James and Erin Murray, and Genna and Tessa Bourchier.  Predeceased by her sister Mary Passmore, her twin sister Jeanne Hunter and her brother Jim Mutchmor.

Anne was born in Winnipeg, the daughter of James Ralph Mutchmor and Helen Leone Howe, and grew up in Toronto where she met her future husband, Bob. They married in 1952 and Bob’s federal government job took them to Alberta, New Brunswick and finally to Ottawa.  In Ottawa, Anne was an active member of the Lansdowne Curling Club and the Canadian Federation of University Women.  She volunteered for the Distress Centre, drove for Meals on Wheels and worked for the Women’s Auxiliary Gift Shop at the Civic Hospital.

Anne took up skiing in Ottawa – and became quite accomplished at it – although she never liked to go “too fast”.  But this new sport led the couple to find the “Stone House” in Mont Cascades Quebec.  Anne always said it was the house with its beautiful stone fireplace where she was happiest, and she and Bob lived there for 25 years after Bob retired.  Anne was a talented artist and craftswoman.  She painted and produced many beautiful creations in stained glass and fabric for family and friends.   Patterns and instructions were just suggestions for her.  She was known to be quite determined and stubborn and stayed up many a night in her workroom – working on a project until she got it just the way she wanted it.

And Anne was a wonderful mother.  She was unwavering in her love and support for her children.  She might not have always liked what they were doing but she never stopped loving them and believing in them.  She let them follow their own paths while providing guidance and wise advice along the way.  As with everything else that she did, she did her very best and it was more than enough.  Anne had a wonderfully full life that was rewarding in every sense of the word.  The only thing that might have made it even better would have been a Stanley Cup win for her beloved Toronto Maple Leafs but, of course that would have required a miracle.

A private service will be held for Anne on Saturday, Aug 13, 2022 at 2:00PM.  Those that wish to view the service may do so scrolling below and clicking on the link.
