Alan Donald Sawyer

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Donald Sawyer, age 73, of Ottawa, Ontario, on October 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Alan was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Elizabeth Sawyer; his siblings, Linda Sawyer and Doug Sawyer; his sister-in-law, Karen Sawyer; his niece Leslie Hill and nephew Lee Dudeck.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Colleen Dudeck and his nieces and nephews: Brent (Audrey), Darren (Darlene) and Ryan Dudeck, Kala Johnson (Tim), Greg (Maryse) and Katie (Sandy) Sawyer, as well as Grant Hill (Leslie’s husband). He will also be fondly remembered by his many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Alan spent much of his career working alongside his brother Doug in the land surveying profession. His work contributed to the development of many subdivisions throughout the City of Ottawa, leaving a lasting mark on the community he called home.

Known for his quirky sense of humour, fierce independence, and deep love of family, Alan lived life on his own terms. He will be remembered for the laughter he brought to those around him and the special place he held in the hearts of his family.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at the Hospice at May Court in Ottawa for the kindness, care, and comfort they provided to Alan during his final days.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Alan’s memory may consider making a donation to the Hospice at May Court.
