William (Bill) R.V. Harris

May 24, 1926 – November 22, 2019

It is with heartbreak and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of William (Bill) at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital in Ottawa.

Bill will be greatly missed by his sons Jeff (Pat), Mike (Irene) and Tim (Cathy), his grandchildren Tara (Derek), Jeff Jr., Stephanie, Kelly, Megan, Jenna, Patricia, Christine, and great grandchildren Vienna, Barron, Jack and Aidan.

Bill was born in Toronto to Laura and Fred Harris. Bill met the love of his life, Helen (nee Wolfraim) at a very young age and paddled Sturgeon Lake to ask her to dance. They married in 1951 and spent 58 wonderful years together until Helen’s passing in 2009. Bill spent his younger years in Toronto working for Prudential Insurance. His 30-year career brought him to Kanata/Ottawa and then Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where he spent 40 years enjoying the company of wonderful friends and neighbours. Our heartfelt thanks to Leigh and Marilyn MacDonald for their friendship, help and support for our Dad throughout the years.

Bill was an avid tennis player and assisted in the building of Curran Hall Tennis Club in Toronto as well as the March Tennis Club in Kanata. He proudly served as a member and subsequent groundskeeper at St. Georges Tennis Club in Dartmouth. Bill loved skiing and over the years spent many hours on the ski hill, taught his sons to enjoy the sport and encouraged many friends to take to the hills. As a member of Vintage Wings of Canada, Bill flew a Fleet Finch in his 85th year, a truly amazing accomplishment.

A warm spirted and kind-hearted father, grandfather and great grandfather, Dad will be dearly missed by all whom he touched during his long and productive lifetime.

Dad has left us to join his beloved Helen for one last dance. May you both rest in eternal peace.
