Brown - William "Bill" Harold

William (Bill) Harold Brown died on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020 at the May Court hospice in Ottawa from complications following a fall in his residence. He was born in Montreal on March 27th, 1928 to Harold and Elizabeth (Ballantyne) Brown and spent his early years there before moving to Pictou, Nova Scotia at the beginning of the war. After the war, he returned to Montreal where he began his career as an underwriter that eventually took him to Ottawa. There he met and married the love of his life Ann (Lamont) and they had their son Mark. To pursue his interest in sailing, and to be closer to family on Prince Edward Island, he moved the family to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1978 where he finished his career as regional manager. There he sailed for over 30 years and continued his life-long service to the church as an elder and singing in the choirs at First Sackville and Knox Presbyterian churches. In his last years, he returned to Ottawa to be closer to his son Mark. Bill was beloved by all who knew him. He was a great storyteller and had an infectious sense of humour, a keen, quiet intelligence, and kindness rooted in a deep spirituality. He will be greatly missed. He is predeceased by Ann and his brother Ian and wife Joan and his brother Robert and his wife Helen. He is survived by his son Mark and his partner Nikki, his nieces Bonnie and Jennifer and nephews James, Matthew and Scott and many cousins including Jane and Ross Davison and their daughters Carolyn, Bonnie, Callie and Susan. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the May Court hospice (Hospice Care Ottawa). A service of remembrance will be held when we can once again gather and hold each other close.
