Stuart Eastman

March 23, 1933 — September 16, 2022

Eastman – Stuart Oswald

Stu passed away with his son, Peter and his beloved wife, Isobel at his side (just like he lived most of his life) on Friday, September 16th, 2022 at 1:00 a.m.

Stuart Oswald (Stu) Eastman was born at home in Carsonby, Ontario on the 23rd day of March, 1933, the youngest child of Beatrice Amanda (Bea) Eastman (née Craig) and Oswald Benjamin (Ossie) Eastman.  He had three older sisters, Hazel Johnston (late Stan) and Violet McEwen (late Leslie). He was predeceased by his sister Madeline Findlay (late Percy).

Stuart weighed only three pounds at birth and without the help of incubators at the time, they kept him warm by placing him in a dresser drawer and putting him in (or nearby) the old fashioned wood burning oven -   the precursor to the modern incubator.  He wasn’t sure how long they left him in the oven but he figured it was until he was “well done”.

Stuart lived his whole life in Carsonby, where he brought his bride, Isobel in 1957 after their wedding in July.  That is where they raised a family of four – Larry (Jennifer), Peter (Peggy), Beth (Chris Carter) and Margie (Bill MacDonald).  Their house was where many family and friend get togethers happened including pool parties, potlucks, New Years parties and holiday gatherings.  Grandchildren added to the joy and noise levels at these gatherings – Richard Oosthuizen (Erica), Ben Eastman (Sarah), Alex Eastman (Shilpa), Evan Reid (Kyle), Avery Reid and Sam Eastman (Melanie).  He was a proud great grandfather to Madeline, Aria, Kieran, Nevin, Noah, Oliver and Rory.

Stuart wanted everyone to be happy.  He was patient and kind.  He loved being on the road.  His motto would be “if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all”.  He was a great dad and husband, active in his community and church and a true friend.

Friends may attend a visitation at the Kars Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 1610 Roger Stevens Dr., Kars on Monday, September 26th from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.  Memorial service will be held at Carsonby United Church, 5940 Prince of Wales Dr., North Gower, ON K0A 2T0 on Tuesday, September 27th at 11 a.m. followed by a reception.  Inurnment Capital Memorial Gardens.
